A (slightly) new worship schedule for Summer 2016.
We have felt the nudgings of the Spirit and heard the cries of the people and so, beginning on Father’s Day, June 19, and continuing for the rest of the summer, we will be starting the 11:10 service at 11:00 am. so that we can be out by noon and enjoy our summer and Sunday afternoons with family and friends. You are encouraged to “come as you are” and bring family and friends for a great time of praise and worship. The service will be A Service of Word and Table. It will be a little more informal and streamlined in format. Of course, we will continue to preach and teach the word of God and spend time in prayer, however, we will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion every single Sunday. The 8:30 am and 9:45 am services will continue unchanged. So, come, and check it out this summer beginning on June 19 at 11:00am.
You Can Help Celebrate Our 40 Years of History
We have many photos of past sessions of Vacation Bible School, but we do not have basic information like year and theme. Please stop by the display at the Connection Center and see if you recognize yourself or your children and jot down any information you can remember.
Cave Quest VBS Training!
If you have volunteered to help with VBS this year, please plan to attend a VBS volunteer meeting this morning. You have the choice of attending any one of the three meetings being offered at 8:30, 9:45 and 11:10 in Room 110 of the Life Center. If you’re interested in serving, we need you! We especially need more crew leaders. Plan to attend one of the meetings today to get all the details. Questions? Email email@example.com.
Donations for VBS
VBS needs your help with donations to make our Cave Quest successful. Please see the bulletin board near Susan Cutshall’s office today and select one or two of the items. the items will need to be brought to the church next Sunday, June 12. All our VBS crew and little spelunkers thank you!
Sundaes on Saturday!
You are invited to “Sundaes on Saturday,” St. Luke’s 3rd major celebration event of our 40th Anniversary Year. The date is this Saturday, June 11, 2:00 to 4:00 pm. We’ll have sundaes, banana splits, and more! Ice cream provided; you are asked to sign up to bring your favorite topping. You won’t want to miss the amazing variety show hosted by Casey McKenzie, who may have a surprise co-host or two. Make your reservations today near the Connection Center.
Honoring Bishop Lindsey Davis
Bishop Lindsey Davis is retiring this summer, and Lindsey and Jennifer will be honored at the Kentucky Annual Conference on the evening of June 14. Everyone is welcome. The Conference this year is in Bowling Green. Bishop Davis and Jennifer have made it clear that their choice for a gift is contributions to Wesley Seminary in Venezuela and Honduras Outreach, Inc. Both of these ministries have been important to the Davises, so this year’s Mission offering at Annual Conference will be designated for those two missions. If you would like to contribute to this offering, please bring your contributions before June 13. You can place it in the offering plate today or next week or send it to the church. Please make sure to indicate it is for “Annual Conference Mission.”
Gentle Reminder about Donations
At St. Luke, we are blessed to have an abundance of generous givers who are eager and willing to donate used clothes, used items, and other various needs. At this time, we are currently not accepting clothing donations. Please take any clothing donations to Goodwill and ask them to count it toward Kentucky Refugee Ministries. The Mountain Mission truck will not arrive until August. You may continue to place small toiletries for the Nathaniel Mission in the basket in the Connection Center, and food donations for God’s Pantry are always accepted.
Cost Savings Initiatives
Being good stewards of God’s blessings involves both our giving to the church and our management of those offerings. Even so, from time-to-time it makes sense to take a deeper look at our costs and expenditures. We are asking each of you to participate in this effort by being vigilant to turn off lights when you leave a room, to not change thermostats, avoid bringing liquids into the Sanctuary where spills require cleanup, being frugal with supplies, and so on. Speaking of those other areas: We would love to hear from you! We challenge individuals, families, small groups, Sunday school classes – anybody and everybody – to think about ways to stretch our resources and cut costs. Please submit your ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org. The Cost Savings team will consider all ideas and share the best ones with the congregation.
