The Fourth Degree of Prayer

The 4th Degree of Prayer Wednesday Nights, 6:30 to 7:30pm

September 14 - October 19

Join facilitator Dr. Mike Voigts for this 6-week series on his newest book The Fourth Degree of Prayer. This study begins on Wed., Sept. 14 through Oct. 19 from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Childcare available upon registration.

For many of us, prayer is something we know we should do, yet it's the one means of connecting with God most intimidating to us. This book presents the ultimate expression of prayer not as something we do, but as part of our very nature. Prayer is more than merely praying. Communication with God involves our entire lives. This book follows a four-stage process which begins with love for God and culminates in life in God. Grounded in Scripture and the witness of those in historic Christianity, this ecumenical approach to prayer fuses theology and experience with conversational, accessible language and ideas.

God's Beloved Daughters Wednesday nights, 6:30-7:45pm

September 14 - November 16

Join lecturer Dr. Susann Liubinskas for this 10-week lecture series, God's Beloved Daughters: Key Players in God's Salvation Plan, to explore the role of women in the church. This study will run from Sept. 14 - Nov. 16 from 6:30-7:45pm. Childcare available upon registration.

"I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet," writes the apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 2:12. Does this passage, and other similar passages in the New Testament prohibit women from preaching and limit their role as teachers? Should women be ordained?

If you ever wondered what these passages mean for our understanding of women's roles in the church, join New Testament scholar Susann Liubinskas in a lecture series exploring what the scriptures teach us regarding women's roles in the church. You are invited to come and learn how to better read from an ancient perspective in order to hear the Word afresh.

Christian Discipleship 101

Discipleship 101 Wednesday Nights, 6:30 to 7:30pm

September 14 – November 9

Join James Sigountos for this 8-week series, Discipleship 101, as you create a life rich in what it means to follow Jesus. This study will run from Sept. 14 - Nov. 9 from 6:30-7:30pm (not meeting on 11/3). Childcare available upon registration.

Looking for an "on-ramp" to a life of discipleship at St. Luke? Then join us this fall for Discipleship 101. This isn't a "doctrines" class. We'll focus instead on the decisions, habits, and practices you need to be a follower of Jesus (and in the process, you'll see good biblical and theological reasons why those habits are necessary). You'll also learn how St. Luke can help you follow Jesus more closely and get a clearer vision of what we mean by "hope, healing, and wholeness." That's Discipleship 101 this fall at St Luke!
