Come and Soar

Last week we kicked off the third year of the Balloon Fund, which is our ongoing effort to pay off the mortgage on the Life Center in 10 years rather than 20.   If we can do this, we will save a million dollars over the life of the loan.  In both of the first two years of the fund, we have exceeded our goal, and through the end of the second year have actually paid off two and a half additional years, already saving about $250,000 in interest over the life of the loan.   We talked about all of the ministries that God has opened to us through the Life Center and all the lives that are being touched through those ministries. Last week, we passed out little balloons with the name of one person of the thousands whose lives have been so impacted.   We were asked to commit to pray for that individual as well as all of the ministries that have emerged through and in the Life Center.   If you did not receive a balloon, additional ones are available in a basket on the table in the Sanctuary Foyer.

We were also asked to be in prayer about a financial commitment.   We will reach our yearly goal by “selling” 130 Balloons at $600 each for a total of $78,000 (one year principal payment).   Groups, Sunday School Classes, and individuals have purchased balloons.   Can you commit to some level of financial support?

The third way that you can help us soar is by serving in one of the ministries that flow out of the Life Center.   During the next weeks we will be highlighting those ministries.    Once you have determined your level of commitment, please write on the back of the balloon the word “pray” and/or the word “give” and/or the word “serve” to reflect your commitment, and bring it back to church.   There will be a basket on the altar for the next few weeks and opportunities to bring your balloon forward during worship.   These returned balloons will then become a part of the visual display that reflects your faithfulness and generosity. There is no need to sign the balloon.   This is a matter between you and God.   This balloon is your invitation to come and soar with the church of Jesus Christ.
