Youth Back-to-School District Event
Several youth groups from UM Churches in the area are getting together to worship and pray for the new school year on September 15 from 5–6 pm at The Source UMC (3330 Partner Place Suite 130). Our youth group will attend and wants to encourage all youth to participate in this event and get to know other students!
Youth District-Wide Worship Night
On September 22, here at St. Luke in the Sanctuary, we will be hosting a district-wide youth worship event from 5–6:30 pm. Come and worship with other youth groups in the area!
Hope Springs UMC Benefit Show
Hope Springs UMC is hosting a benefit show and silent auction for the Nathaniel Mission on Saturday, September 21 at 7pm. This is a magic show and a silent auction. Admission is free and donations benefit the Nathaniel Mission.
Health Expo: Save the Date! • On Wednesday, October 23, during Wednesday.comm, the St. Luke Community Nurses and the Health Department Nurses will be on hand to provide flu shots, wellness checks, and fun health education opportunities! You won’t want to miss this.
Blue Barrel Sunday
Today is the Sunday that we all try to fill the Blue Barrels with donations for our God’s Pantry Food Bank. Place your bags, fill with basics – vegetables, tomato products, and soups, in or near one of the Blue Barrels. If you forgot, you can bring your contributions at any time by leaving them at the Blue Barrels by door 3 or at the pantry.
Young Adults and College Age UK Football Watching
On September 21 at 4:00pm, our Young Adults and College students are gathering to watch the UK vs Mississippi football game at John’s house. Hospitality Team Training
If you are currently or are interested in getting involved in the Hospitality team (ushers, greeters, lobby millers, or welcome desk team), then this training is for you! Wednesday.comm Meal and Classes
Our meal for Wednesday, September 18 is prepared and served by United Methodist Women. Proceeds will go towards the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Meal: BBQ Pork, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, and homebaked cobblers. There is a suggested donation of $5 per plate (plate sharing is allowed!), and the meal will be served from 5:15 – 6:30 pm. Tailgating and Picnic in the Parking Lot Today
We are kicking off the new teaching series “Tailgating” with a Tailgating party of our own in the parking lot after the 11:00 am service today. The front part of the parking lot (closest to door 1 and the Sanctuary) will be blocked off today for hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and inflatables! If you need to be dropped off or picked up near the door, please use door 2 or 4 in the back. We also want to remind families to keep an eye on their little ones!
Introduction to Christian Theology
Dr. Ken Collins is currently offering the course, “Introduction to Christian Theology,” for earnest Christians who are curious about their faith in the face of an increasingly complex world. The course offers challenging lectures, drawing from the resources of revelation and reason, but also welcome engaging and thoughtful participation. Join us in The Trinity Room on Sundays at 11:00 am.
Holiday Market 2019
The United Methodist Women are hosting their Holiday Market on October 18 & 19 here at St. Luke. The vendor fee is $35 unless you are a member or regular attender of St. Luke, and then the cost is only $30. Habitat for Humanity Build Resumes
The Habitat/Thrivent Financial Build has resumed building to finish a house alongside Wakenya Saidi and Sifa Entyonyemya and their seven children. If you are interested in volunteering for painting, landscaping, or finishing work, volunteer sign-ups can be found at /stlukeumc.org/habitat/. Volunteers will be needed on Fridays and Saturdays September 13-October 4. Wakenya and Sifa are grateful for what God has done for their family. They are looking forward to working with all the volunteers who will be helping them finish their house!
Food Rescue Opportunity
We are looking for one or more volunteers who could pick-up food from the Big Lots on Lane Allen Road on Monday mornings. The food would be picked up 9- 9:30 to be delivered to St. Luke by 11 am. For the first 2-3 months, it will be canned foods, cereals, and ‘extras.’ Later it may include bakery products and butter, cheese and other dairy items.
