St Luke’s God’s Pantry Team is looking for a New Volunteer Scheduler

Are you detail oriented and organized? Do you know how to send group emails? Can you handle numerous phone calls and last minute efforts to find a volunteer?   Our long term scheduler needs a break. We seek someone to pick up the task for doing the monthly schedule using an established list of volunteers. Interested? Contact Karen Hinkle at kphinkle@twc.com.


Special Event for God’s Pantry Clients

G & J Pepsi Distributing is ending a month long project in support of God’s Pantry by doing a special event at St. Luke for the families that come to the St. Luke pantry and for volunteers.  On Wednesday evening, July 31, from 5:30 to 6:30, they will be in our back parking lot with hot dogs, Pepsi, and chips for clients and volunteers and activities for children. This is a great time for St. Luke to show hospitality to the individuals and families who regularly come to the pantry by simply being present and greeting and welcoming those who attend. Can you be a ‘host’ or ‘hostess’ to let families know St. Luke is pleased to be able to serve them?  Can you help Gil Rouse in setting up tables and chairs? Can you provide some brownies, cookies or cupcakes? Let Karen Hinkle know how you can help at kphinkle@twc.com.


Holiday Market 2019 

The United Methodist Women are hosting their Holiday Market on October 18 & 19 here at St. Luke. The vendor fee is $35, unless you are a member or regular attender of St. Luke and then the fee is only $30. Fall 2019 Wednesday.comm

Our Wednesday.comm Fall 2019 semester will start on September 4th!  This is a couple of weeks later than we have started in recent years so we wanted to let you all know early.  Stay tuned for more info coming soon!


Calling all incoming 6th graders!

The Youth Group (SLUMY) would like to invite all incoming 6th graders and their parents to join us in all activities during the summer. Early Response Team Training

Want to help in an emergency? There is a UMCOR Early Response Team Training scheduled for July 27 at St Luke. The class will start at 8:30 am and finish around 5pm.

Lunch will be served. Will also have snacks, cold drinks and coffee.

The cost is $15 per person (checks payable to Kentucky Annual Conference Disaster Response). To register or for information, email Allen Porter at alport1941@gmail.com by July 24.


Blue Barrel Sunday

Today is Blue Barrel Sunday, the one Sunday a month that we all try to fill the Blue Barrels with donations for our God’s Pantry Food Bank. Please place your blue bags filled with miscellaneous canned veggies near or in one of the Blue Barrels. Forgot your bag? You can drop off your contributions any time by leaving at the Blue Barrels by door 3 or at the pantry. 


Support St. Luke Through Your Kroger Purchases

St. Luke receives FREE MONEY from Kroger as part of Kroger’s Community Rewards program! Every time you shop at Kroger and swipe your Kroger Plus card, the church earns money!  It does NOT take away any of your gas points or increase the price you pay for any items, but you must sign up! Since we began participation in the program in 2014, St. Luke has received $23,109.99 FREE MONEY!  The more people we have participating, the bigger our community rewards check! Just go to Kroger.com/CommunityRewards, sign in to your Kroger account (or create one if you need to), click “I’m a Customer,” click “Enroll,” type in “St. Luke UMC,” and click “Enroll.” If you need assistance, don’t have a computer, or just don’t want to deal with it, Dawn will do it for you! We make it so easy to participate! Simply fill out a “Kroger Community Rewards” form, available at the Welcome and Connection Centers.


Habitat for Humanity Build

Several United Methodist Churches and Thrivent Financial are currently building a house alongside Wakenya Saidi and Sifa Entyonyemya and their seven children at 230 East 6th Street. If you are interested in construction, painting, landscaping, and more, volunteer sign-ups can be found at www.lexingtonhabitat.volunteerhub.com/lp/Methodist. If you are interested in providing lunches for the build please sign up at https://stlukeumc.org/habitat or call or email Kathy Silberman at 699-1582 or k.silberman123@gmail.com. Wakenya and Sifa are grateful for what God has done for their family. They are looking forward to working with all the volunteers who will be helping them build their home!


Mountain Mission Truck

The United Methodist Mountain Mission has 8 opportunity stores in Eastern Kentucky. With the help of supporters like you, they are able to provide gently used clothing and household items at a reasonable price. They are looking for new socks and underwear for men, women, and children, men’s and children’s summer clothes, good pots and pans, men’s shoes, good used furniture, coffee, coffee cups, air fresheners, 33 gallon garbage bags, Pinesol, dust mops, toilet bowl cleaner, sugar, paper towels, toilet tissue. Please place your items in the stairwell by the Connection Center before Monday, July 22.


Hospitality Volunteers Meeting

Calling all Greeters, Millers, and Connection Center/Welcome Center volunteers!  Please come to a brief meeting with Pastor Brian on Sunday, August 4th from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Loft to share ideas and hear about vision for this critical ministry area!
