Calling All 2019 High School and Higher Education Graduates

We want to take time in worship to recognize and honor our graduates. St. Luke will recognize College/University and other Higher Education Graduates on April 28, and we will recognize high school graduates on May 19. We need the following information: the graduate’s name, high school or college of graduation, degree (if applicable), parents’ names, the graduate’s plans following graduation, a photo, and which service you plan to attend on the date you are to be recognized (if you are able to do so). Please send these details to mwalz@stlukeumc.org no later than April 22 for college/university graduates and no later than May 13 for high school graduates.

Sunday Night “Over 40” Basketball

Are you over 40 and interested in playing basketball with others your age in the gym at St. Luke? We will be  playing together Sunday nights at 7:30 p.m. If you are 40 or over, come and join us, no matter your skill level!

Offering for KY United Methodist Homes for Children & Youth

The Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children & Youth (KyUMH) offering is today.  Every 5th Sunday, we support this ministry to children and youth with histories of abuse, neglect and/or family trauma.  KyUMH brings hope and healing to over 150 youth and families throughout Kentucky each day through residential and community-based programs. Check out kyumh.org to read success stories and more about the ministry.  You can donate online or make a donation in the offering plate today. Please designate that it is for the Methodist Homes. Thank you for your part in sustaining this ministry for 145 years!

United Methodist Women Meeting: Instilling Hope with Greenhouse 17

Please come and bring a friend to the UMW meeting this Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will have a speaker from Greenhouse 17, an amazing local program serving abused women and children. We will learn about their shelter on a 40-acre farm where “nature-based healing” and job training for survivors occurs, as well as growing and serving nutritious field-to-table produce. Questions? Contact Janet Garrison at 221-5424.

Wednesday.comm Meal and Classes

Our meal for Wednesday, April 3 is prepared and served by the Seasons Sunday School Class. Proceeds will go to the Guatemala Missions Team Trip. Meal: lasagna, bread, green salad, and dessert. There is a suggested donation of $5 per plate (plate sharing is allowed!) and the meal will be served from 5:15 – 6:30 p.m. Classes for children, youth and adults will follow the meal. Find out more about classes at stlukeumc.org/wednesdays.

Do you have questions about God but hesitate to ask them?

You are invited to the Sunday school class of Dr. Kenneth Collins, a professor at Asbury Seminary.  Dr. Collins is known around the world as the expert on John Wesley studies. We are blessed to have Ken and his wife, Marilyn, as members of our church family.

The class meets at 11 am every Sunday in the Trinity Room, room 116, located next to the gym.  Dr. Collins talks about the meaning and purpose of our lives as Christians, and allows plenty of time for discussion of those questions we hesitate to ask. Limited seating, so come early!

New Women’s Bible Study

“Stepping Up: A Journey through the Psalms of Ascent” by Beth Moore has begun and it’s not too late to join!  We will run through May 16. We will meet on Thursdays from 10:00-12:00, in room 126, with the exception of April 4, due to Spring Break.  This class will be facilitated by Melissa VanCamp. For more information you may contact her by phone, 540-309-9191, or email, mevancamp@yahoo.com.

St. Luke Texts!
You can now opt in to receive important texts reminders from St. Luke! This is a free service and you don’t even have to download anything or create a password in order to participate. It lets you choose precisely which groups and ministries you want to get email and text messages from here at St. Luke.

Simply text the letters SLUMC to the SHORT 5-digit phone number 84576. After it texts you back, make sure you click that link and complete the process, choosing what updates you’d like from us.

We’ll also use this to send you important updates about church-wide special events coming up, inclement weather announcements, reminders of overall cancellations or schedule changes, and, if ever necessary, immediate church-wide safety and security notifications.

If you can’t complete this on your mobile phone, please go online to: flocknote.com/ StLukeUMC.

In addition to food and mocktails, the evening will include a live and silent auction hosted by Lexington FOX 56 anchor Marvin Bartlett and an inspirational testimony from a former resident.  Tickets are $75.
