Annual Conference Mission Offering 2019

Each year at Missions Night at Annual Conference (Tuesday, June 11 this year) an offering is received from every local church to support two or three mission projects in the Annual Conference and beyond the Conference.   This year two of those projects touch St. Luke directly. One of the projects is Grace Kids: A Church for Kids in Louisville. This is an amazing outreach to at-risk kids in a very tough area of Louisville. Former St. Luker,  Rev. Corey Nelson is the pastor in charge. A second project is to help support congregations that are working with refugees, and ministering to these new populations in America. St. Luke has within our church family two such missionary communities with our Congolese/Swahili community and our Multicultural Community.   The third mission project that the offering will support is Encounter Ministries, which is an addiction recovery ministry in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. These areas have been hit hard with drug abuse and addiction and Encounter Ministry is beginning to make great strides in offering a ministry of recovery in these vastly under resourced areas.   Through our generosity we have a great opportunity to impact many lives in our community and our state. If you would like to support the Conference Mission offering, please place your offering in the plate on Sunday and mark it for Annual Conference Mission or send it to the church designated in the same way. Or you can give online, at stlukeumc.org and also designate for the Annual Conference Missions Offering.   All donations need to be made no later than June 4 in order to be included on Missions night.

Sunday is Blue Barrel Sunday!

Retirement Celebration for Pastor Mark

On Friday, May 31, at 6 pm, in the Life Center, we will celebrate Pastor Mark Girard’s retirement from the ministry after 38 years of dedicated service! What an accomplishment and a well-deserved send-off for Mark, Karen, and their family. We want to take this opportunity to thank Mark for his years of dedicated service not only to St Luke UMC but also all the churches he has served so faithfully during his time in the Methodist tradition. The SPRC is planning a fried chicken, green beans (Mark’s favorite), and mac & cheese menu supplemented by side dishes, salads or desserts from those who will be able to attend. We are also planning some time to share our favorite stories and memories of Mark and his impact on our lives. What we are asking everyone to do, even if you cannot attend this event, is to write cards, notes, letters of appreciation, etc. and drop them off in Venus’s office or put in the SPRC mail box. Love gifts are also welcome and should be given to one of the staff or SPRC members.

In order to help us plan, please RSVP the number in your family that will be attending, please mark your attendance on the sheet in the Connection Center or email mwalz@stlukeumc.org to let us know you will be there.
